Memorial website in the memory of your loved one

Shannon Nicole Lemieux was Born on January 11, 1988 in Napa, California to Daniel and Lori Lemieux.  She was taken from us suddenly on March 3, 2005 at the age of 17.  She loved to dance and swim.  She left behind an amazing legacy for a person who graced this earth for such a short time.  Her grace and beauty were exceeded only by her care and love of others.  Her passing has affected so many people.  She is an angel in the eyes of many, especially to me.  As her brother, I didn't just lose a little sister, I lost my best friend.  I created this site as an outlet for those who knew her well, or not at all.  Thanks for helping to perpetuate her memory by leaving comments about favorite memories or by emailing me with pictures or suggestions.

The 8th Annual Shannon Lemieux Memorial Swim Meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st 2012 at the Vintage High School pool.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Mention of Shannon in Vintage Grads Speech
Vintage grads head off 'to do great things'
Friday, June 3, 2005

By JAY GOETTING
Register Staff Writer

More than 400 graduating seniors from Vintage High School were told to reach for the stars as they prepare to go out into the world following their four years of studies.

"You are going to do great things," Principal Eric Schneider told the group before a capacity crowd of friends and relatives at Memorial Stadium. "True happiness is not necessarily found in a big paycheck. It's in the friends you make."

The class of 2005, with its 418 students, had 29 with weighted grade point averages higher than 4.0, a high achievement in any educational institution. More than a dozen are members of the Honor Society, and many had earned other distinctions during their high school careers.

The recorded big band strains of Harry Connick Jr. greeted the crowd. That quickly segued to Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" under the baton of Vintage High band director William Gantt as the students filed in.

An emotional Kaitlin Losey, one of four student speakers representing the Top One Percent Society, reminded her colleagues that life is precious and invoked the memory of classmate Shannon Lemieux who died in an auto accident in March.

"Life is short, and time is precious," said Losey. "Make the most of every single day. Take chances."

The love and support of friends and family are a great part of the success the students have gained, said another speaker, Amy Fechter. "Know you can't just walk through the door (into your future)," she said. "But now we see a light beneath it."

Natalie LaRochelle said her four years of high school were not at all like the television stereotypes she had come to expect. "We are a large group of emerging adults," she said.

In a more philosophical vein, Isabel Yerkes said, "We have a mandate to change the world. At the end of this high school journey, we have no idea if we will become what we planned," she said, urging them to "Make things happen."

In predicting great things for the class of 2005, Schneider said high school for the young grads has been like working for 20 bosses with multiple performance reviews, good preparation for the real world.

Prior to handing out the diplomas, Schneider recalled the reading of Herman Hesse's "Siddhartha," required for many of the students. The principal recalled the protagonist's journey and his quest to learn from himself the mysteries of the world.
Shannon's Philosophy of Life Paper (Written 8-15-04)

Philosophy 1º

                                              Philosophy of Life

            My philosophy on life is plain and simple. Live life to the fullest.Live as if you were going to die tomorrow. I try not to let things scare me, so I can say I’ve lived life like I wanted to and I don’t regret one thing. When I die, I want to be able to say I did everything I wanted to do and I’m happy with the life I lived. If you let things scare you, then you’re never going to get a real experience. I’ve seen people who live unhappy lives and that is something that I don’t want. I try not to let what my parents want for me;

influence what I want for myself. I’m actually at that point in my life where I’m learning to go for what I want. If you don’t at least try for something u want, you may never be happy.

I also believe that you should cherish everything you have in life. There are some people less fortunate and you should not take for granted what you have. It may not be what you want exactly, but at least you have it. My philosophy on life is, if you live a happy life, then you have lived life to the fullest. As long as you are happy and satisfied.

Everyone has their own way of living. Some people may find other peoples life styles weird or different, because every ones way of living life is not the same.  I am currently very happy with the way I am living my life. I believe if I follow my philosophy on life then I will have a real experience and not have any regrets when I look back in the past as I’m older.

Lemieux Memorial Meet a major success
Over 500 attend in support, over $10,000 raised
Sunday, April 17, 2005

From Register Staff

"It was absolutely staggering," Bob Saunders said about the turnout for Saturday's Shannon Lemieux Memorial Swim and Dive Meet. "Beyond our wildest dreams. Today was just wonderful."

Throughout the day over 500 supporters attended and helped raise over $10,000 to support the new Shannon Lemieux Swim and Dive Memorial Scholarship fund for deserving seniors at Justin-Siena, Napa and Vintage High Schools. All of the money raised will be invested into a scholarship fund for years to come.

Shannon Lemieux was 17 years old when she passed away last month in a car accident. Her loving parents and supporters from all over Napa bonded together to establish this scholarship fund for seniors who have earned a 3.0 GPA or above, have been a member of their high school's swim and/or dive team for three or more years and will be continuing their education after graduation.

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one senior from each high school. Coaches from each team will nominate a maximum of three students per year for the scholarship. A board consisting of nine people will then vote for the recipient from each school. Saunders is the president of the scholarship board.

Saturday's event was kicked off by the National Anthem, the reading of a poem by several of Shannon's classmates and a moment of silence.

The Redwood Empire Synchronized Swim Team from Santa Rosa opened up the pool events with two performances.

"The synchronized swim was unbelievable," Saunders said. "There was a lot of cheering."

Shannon's parents attended the meet at the Napa Valley College pool.

"They were very thankful and appreciative," said Saunders of Dan and Lori Lemieux. "The whole energy, the whole atmosphere was just happy. It was just so positive, everyone came away feeling really good. There was a lot of love."

Organizers are planning to make this an annual event and expand it in years to come.

"We're going to add a water polo portion next year," Saunders said.

Swimmers and divers from all three high schools participated in different events throughout the afternoon in celebration, love and remembrance of Shannon, although times were not noted.
Letter to the Editor
Disappointed in photo selection
Thursday, March 17, 2005

Dear editor,

Once again, your editing staff chose to print an extremely disturbing, inappropriate, disrespectful photograph. I refer to page A2 of March 5's edition of the Napa Register. As a continuation of the front page story titled "Teen's Life Cut Short In Crash," a picture of Shannon Lemieux's Honda Civic is shown with what is unmistakably her body in a yellow body bag. Accepting her tragic, untimely death is burden enough for her family and friends, opening the newspaper to such a painful photo only intensifies the pain. I am terribly disappointed in your editing abilities.
